India typing tests

India has the largest number of computer typing tests in the world. SSC, RRB, state service commissions, high courts and CPCT all run skill tests with fixed speeds, strict error rules and specific Hindi keyboard layouts. Practise the exact format here.

Frequently asked questions

Which typing speed do most Indian government exams need?
35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi is the SSC standard (10,500 and 9,000 key depressions per hour). RRB NTPC asks for 30 and 25 WPM, CPCT for 30 and 20 WPM, and DEST posts count 8,000 key depressions in 15 minutes.
Mangal, Kruti Dev or Remington GAIL: which should I practise?
Check your notification. SSC and DSSSB accept Mangal Inscript or Kruti Dev; CPCT uses Remington GAIL or Inscript on Mangal; Rajasthan High Court accepts Kruti Dev 010 only. Our Hindi tests emulate each layout on a normal QWERTY keyboard.
How are mistakes counted?
Most bodies follow the SSC rule: a wrong, omitted, added or misspelt word is a full mistake; wrong capitalisation, spacing or punctuation is a half mistake. Net speed = gross words minus full mistakes minus half of the half mistakes.
Is backspace allowed in the real exam?
Usually yes (SSC, CPCT English, most state tests). RRB NTPC disables backspace and editing keys. Each practice test here mirrors the real rule.
