Chapter 2 of 16
Home row
The home row is where your hands live. These ten lessons build the reflex of returning to it after every keystroke and introduce your first real words.
- 1
F, J and space
Index fingers on F and J, thumb on space. Type each group, then a space, keeping your eyes on the screen.

- 2
D and K
Middle fingers rest on D and K. They are long and strong; keep them curved so the fingertip, not the pad, presses the key.

- 3
S and L
Ring fingers on S and L. Ring fingers are weaker and tend to drag the pinky along; press with the ring finger alone.

- 4
A and semicolon
Pinkies on A and ;. Pinkies feel awkward at first. Go slowly and accept a lighter touch than the other fingers.

- 5
G and H reaches
Index fingers stretch inward to G and H, then return to F and J. The return trip matters as much as the reach.

- 6
Home row words
All eight home keys plus G and H make real words: ask, dad, sad, lads, flag, hash, glass. Type them in rhythm.

- 7
Home row phrases
Short phrases built only from home row letters. Keep the space bar rhythm even.

- 8
Home row review
A mixed review of everything so far. Aim for clean accuracy before you chase speed.

- 9
