Before speed comes setup. Two short lessons on posture, hand position and the finger-to-key map that everything else builds on.

Posture and hand position
Sit back with both feet flat, elbows at about 90 degrees and wrists straight. Curve your fingers lightly over the home row (A S D F for the left hand, J K L ; for the right). The bumps on F and J tell your index fingers where home is without looking.

The finger map
Each finger owns a column. Index fingers cover two columns each (F G R T V B and J H U Y N M), thumbs press space, and pinkies handle the outer keys plus Shift and Enter. Keep this map in mind and never let a finger wander into another's column.
